Matt Gray
Assistant Programmer

Matt Gray is stronger than Einstein, smarter than Hercules, and he’ll kick your butt….. at Nintendo.

The following tale is true. And by true, I mean false. It’s all lies, but they’re entertaining lies. And, in the end, isn’t that the real truth? The answer is: no.

A child of destiny born of humble beginnings, Matthew Underdunk Gray was abandoned at the senseless age of eight weeks. Too crazy for Boy’s Town, too much of a boy for Crazy Town, young Matt was an outcast.

He was a powder keg waiting to go off in an explosion of unacceptable behavior and in 1988, with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System, his fuse would be lit.

Some might claim that Matt gained his unholy computer programming ability while a Computer Science student at the University of Maryland. They’d be wrong. Matt first began programming on the Apple II GS, teaching himself AppleSoft Basic at 11 years of age. So, if anyone ever asks you if old Matt Gray paid his dues, you tell ‘em the check is in the mail.

Before he started at Big Huge Games, Matt used to have free time, which he generally divided between basketball, video games, and, occasionally, basketball video games. It’s said he’ll watch any movie with Sean Connery or Bill Murray and buy any game made by Cave, Seeds, or Treasure’s shooting team.

The best video game of all time, in his lofty opinion, is Super Mario Bros. 3™. As testament to its greatness, Matt points out that Super Mario Bros. 3™ managed to maintain its credibility despite sharing the silver screen with Fred Savage – a feat equaled only by the legendary Peter Falk.

Other favorite games include Contra: Shattered Soldier™, Vandal Hearts™, Breath of Fire V™, ESP Galuda™, Kid Icarus™, Ico™, Silent Hill 2™, the original Castlevania™, and many more.

Don’t let his hardcore game preference throw you; Matt is perfectly sane. Everyone else, however, is insane and out to steal his magic bag.

Oh yes, and he really hates yo-yos.
