Rise of Nations
Rise of Nations allows players to improve their city infrastructure, create new cities, and expand national borders. Players have the option to win through military might using everything from sling-shots to cannons to stealth bombers; corner the market on key commodities; and wheel and deal with a wide variety of civilizations. Unlike other historical real-time strategy games, Rise of Nations allows the gamer to quickly play through to the modern age.
Thrones and Patriots Expansion
Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots, the expansion pack to Rise of Nations, adds a multitude of new features, introducing six new nations, four new single player campaigns, more than 20 new units, new wonders and an innovative new Government feature. Each of the six government types also grants the player a unique Patriot unit, which has a set of special abilities that benefit nearby units or buildings.
Gold Edition
Rise of Nations: Gold Edition includes both Rise of Nations and the Thrones and Patriots expansion. The original Rise of Nations garnered several “Best of 2003” awards and “Editor’s Choice” awards from major media outlets. Thrones & Patriots, released in April 2004, was also awarded a number of “Editor’s Choice” awards and was praised as one of the best expansions to date.
