BALTIMORE, MD -
Big Huge Games is excited to announce “Sketch to Screen”, an exhibition at the Gudelsky Gallery at the School of Art + Design at Montgomery College in Silver Spring, Maryland. Set to open February 19th, the exhibition examines the active transition of concept art in modern video games and will run through March 18th.
Second in a series first exhibited at the Maryland Institute College of Art’s Rosenberg Gallery earlier in 2006, “Sketch to Screen” represents the work of the talented artists of Big Huge Games. The exhibition focuses on the concept art and impressive visual imagery of Big Huge Games’ latest award-winning release of the PC Game Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. In addition to previously displayed works, the exhibition will feature additional selections that will be presented for the first time for public viewing.
Bestowed with the Gamespy’s 2006 “Special Achievement in Art Direction” Award and commended in the press as “A playable piece of art…” (Game Revolution), and “…the best looking RTS I’ve ever played” (PC Gamer), Rise of Legends broke new ground in video game graphics. The visual power, complexity and breadth of traditions involved in creating the immersive and fantastical world highlighted in “Sketch to Screen” attests to the under-examined realm of modern game art.
“The creative staff received inspiration from a wide range of material in bringing the world to life. Leonardo da Vinci, The Arabian Nights and Hayao Miyazaki are just a few of the major influences,” comments Dave Inscore, Art Director for Big Huge Games. “We’re extremely pleased to exhibit these works featured for viewing by the public at the distinguished School of Art + Design at Montgomery College.”
The exhibition contains various concepts, 3D models, animations, advertising and marketing imagery in addition to stills from the full-motion opening cinematic for the game created by the widely respected Blur Studio.
Located at the School of Art + Design at Montgomery College in Silver Spring, Maryland, the exhibition will be open to the general public from February 19th – March 18th. Gallery hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A reception will be held on February 27th at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
